On August 4th 2020, a gargantuan explosion wiped out a huge part of Beirut, causing at least 200 deaths, 7,000 injuries, 10-15 billion USD in property damage, and leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless. On the 40th day following the explosion Studio Safar teamed up with Boiler Room to release a special Boiler Room T-shirt, raising funds for those affected within the music community.

Alongside the T-shirt, we found a visual emblem in a pressure cooker–the quintessential kitchen appliance in any Levantine household–and its communication of the explosive and deadly repercussions of a government organized around negligence and corruption.

The artwork was then sold by a collective called Beirut Editions. They printed limited-edition risograph prints from various artists around the world in support of relief efforts for Beirut, the proceeds went to @egnalegna, @armlebanon and @havenforartists.
It was also featured in The Smudge - Volume 4 - April 2021

The poster also was a Winner of the 2021 MA-g Awards for graphic design: The components of an exploding pressure cooker, by Lynne Zakhour and Maya Moumne / Studio Safar, 2021
